How to go about starting a youth wrestling program?
Is there alot of hassle to start a youth program say ages 6-12? Other than obviously finding somewhere to hold the practices and wrestling mats what else would I have to do?
Wishing I was a level 2 so I could thumbs down some of these answers! I’m getting ready to be taking over our youth wrestling club. To get one started from nothing is going to prove to be difficult. I would contact the high school athletic director. From what I understand, most of them aren’t too thrilled about wrestling. It runs the same season as basketball.
Anyhow, if you can get a club together that included the elementary schools that feed into a certain high school you’d be alright. I think a lot of it has to do with where you live. The size of the town you live in and how much interest in the sport there is. Or how much interest you could generate for the sport.
But if you get a high school, that has a wrestling program, on board than you’ll have many things accomplished. Gym time, mats, possibly even a coach, scales, high school students who can help out with practice and matches, etc.
